当店のビスポークオーダーは、型紙の作成から裁断、縫製、仕上げに至るまで、すべての工程を自社の職人が一貫して担っております。縫製においては、創業当初より一人の職人が一枚を縫い上げる「丸縫い」のスタイルを守り続けています。
シャツを一貫して仕上げることで“鮮度”を保ち、洗練された佇まいを生み出すことができると考えています。生産性は落ちますが、それによって品質の安定、そして何より職人の温もりと想いがシャツに反映されると信じています。
型紙作製においては、パターンオーダーで用いられるブロックパターン（有り型）の補正や、仮縫いによる単なる“調整”とは異なります。
お客様の体型やご希望のデザイン、着用時の動きまでを丁寧に考慮しながら、一本の線から専用の「原型」をゼロから設計いたします。これにより、体型の個性に応じた最適なバランス・可動性・美しさを導き出し、真にお客様だけのためのシャツを、一着ずつ白紙から設計いたします。
当店は仮縫いを採用しておりません。
独自の平面理論をもとに、お客様それぞれの体の特徴（前後のバランス、肩の傾斜や振り、首のつき方、腕のつき方など）を立体的に計算しながら設計図を組み、一本の線から組み上げていきます。
ただ身体の特徴に合わせるだけではなく、着心地を担保するための可動域を計算的に加え、全体のバランスを平面上で見極め、最適な落とし所を導きます。
設計図から組み上げる利点は、様々な体型の癖をシャツの最適なバランスを崩さずに取り込める点にあります。そのため、例えば肩幅やネックサイズなど一部を調整する際は、全体のバランスが変わるため、再度一から設計図を組み直します。これにより、他の箇所に影響を与えず調整することができます。
つまり、仮縫いで調整を加えると本来の設計バランスを崩してしまうため、当店の平面理論の強みを半減させかねず、対応しておりません。
初回の採寸では、細かな寸法を取るだけでなく、メジャーでは測れない首のつき方や腕の振り、前後のバランス感を読み取り、理論的に型紙作りに反映させます。
At LES LESTON, our bespoke orders are handled entirely in-house, with every process—from pattern making to cutting, sewing, and finishing—carried out consistently by our own craftsmen. In sewing, we have upheld since our founding the style of “maru-nui”, where a single craftsman completes one shirt from start to finish.
We believe that completing a shirt in its entirety by one hand preserves its “freshness” and brings forth a refined presence. While this inevitably lowers productivity, we are convinced that it ensures stability of quality and, above all, allows the warmth and spirit of the craftsman to be reflected in the shirt.
In pattern making, we do not rely on the correction of block patterns (ready-made templates) used in pattern orders, nor on mere “adjustments” made through basted fittings.
Instead, we design an entirely original base pattern from a single line, carefully considering the customer’s body shape, desired design, and even their movements when wearing the shirt. Through this, we derive the optimal balance, mobility, and beauty suited to each individual’s physique, and create, from a completely blank sheet, a shirt truly and uniquely for that person.
We do not employ basted fittings.
Based on our unique flat-plane theory, we calculate the individual characteristics of each client’s body—such as front-to-back balance, shoulder slope and pitch, the way the neck sets, and the angle of the arms—and assemble the design drawing line by line.
We do not simply adapt to these features; rather, we mathematically add allowances for mobility to ensure comfort in wear, while observing the overall balance on a flat plane to determine the ideal point of resolution.
The advantage of constructing from a design drawing lies in being able to incorporate the various nuances of each body type without disturbing the optimal balance of the shirt. Therefore, when making an adjustment to a specific measurement—such as shoulder width or neck size—the overall balance shifts, and the drawing must be rebuilt entirely from the start. In this way, we can make corrections without disturbing any other parts of the shirt.
In other words, if adjustments were made through a basted fitting, the original design balance would be compromised, and the very strength of our flat-plane theory would be diminished. For this reason, we do not adopt basted fittings.
During the initial measuring, we do more than just take precise numerical dimensions. We observe and interpret details that cannot be captured by tape measure alone, such as the way the neck sets, the swing of the arms, and the sense of balance between front and back, and reflect these readings into the pattern with theoretical precision.
当店のシャツはすべてマシンメイドによって仕上げられます。
しかし一般的なシャツの縫い代は「折り伏せ縫い」と呼ばれる仕様で、ミシンのアタッチメントにより自動的に巻き込まれます。
一方で当店の折り伏せは、縫い代を一つひとつ職人の手で丁寧に伏せ、クセ取りを施した後にミシンで押さえ込みます。これにより縫い代が押されて歪むことがなく、パッカリングを極限まで防ぎ、洗濯後もねじれのないクリーンな仕上がりとなります。すなわち、手縫いの利点をマシンメイドによって再現しています。
また、裁断の前には必ず生地を水通しし、さらに地直しを施した上で行うため、完成後の縮みや歪みも極力抑えています。
洗練された実用的なシャツを仕上げるためには、細部の積み重ねが何より重要です。
衿やカフス付け、折り伏せの処理は、地縫いを施してから返して伏せるという、一般的な手法より一〜二工程多い方法を採用しており、強度と美しさを兼ね備えています。
また、襟先の角の出し方、襟やカフスの自然で美しいカーブ、そして左右の均整。パーツと身頃の連動性、段差のない自然な繋がり。そうした部分を意識し、縫い代を手作業で馴染ませることで隙のない仕上がりを追求しています。ステッチは自然でなだらかに走ることを重視し、縫い継ぎを一切行わないことで、最初から最後まで安定感を保ちつつ美しく仕上げます。そうすることでシャツに安心感と豊かな表情を与えると考えています。
地襟は地の目をバイアス方向に裁断し、中心で接いでいます。生地の地の目方向の伸びを活かし、襟先へ向かって引きながら縫い合わせることで、地襟が表襟に自然なテンションを与え、外寸と内寸の差を極力なくし、綺麗な襟の返りを実現させます。また芯地はすべて正バイアスで裁断し、横方向の縮みを抑えるだけでなく、襟の返りやカフスの丸みに適度な反発力を与え、美しい立体感を生み出します。
後ろが前より高く、肩が前振りのお客様など、後方に動きと立体感を与える必要がある場合には、独自の平面理論によってヨーク下に可動域を生み出します。その可動域を支えるため、必要な分量だけを肩甲骨に寄せたギャザーを加えます。それはデザインではなく機能の必然から生まれたディテールであり、全体にギャザーを寄せることはありません。肩甲骨のみに自然なギャザーを寄せるため、職人が糸を引き、一つひとつ手で調整します。
柄合わせにも強いこだわりを持っています。連動性のある箇所はもちろん、チェック柄では縦横の連動までも整えます。襟やヨークの横目と身頃の縦目を計算的に連動させ、裁断の段階から整えることで、自然で一体感のある仕上がりを実現します。
ボタン付けや剣ボロのカンヌキはすべて手縫いで行い、最後のアイロンプレスと仕上げも歪みなく、人体を意識した立体的な形で仕上げます。お客様のお手元に届くまで、一切の妥協を許しません。
All of our shirts are finished using machines.
However, in ordinary shirts, the seam allowance is finished with what is known as “felled seams,” where the allowance is automatically rolled in by a sewing machine attachment.
In contrast, at LES LESTON each seam allowance is carefully folded by hand, eased into place, and only then secured with the machine. This prevents the allowance from being pressed and distorted, minimizes puckering to the utmost degree, and ensures that even after washing the shirt retains a clean, twist-free finish. In other words, we reproduce the advantages of hand sewing through machine-made methods.
Furthermore, before cutting, every fabric is always pre-washed and properly straightened, in order to minimize shrinkage and distortion after completion.
To complete a shirt that is both refined and practical, attention to detail is paramount.
For attaching collars and cuffs, as well as for seam finishing, we adopt a method that adds one or two more steps than usual—performing an initial stitch, then turning and finishing. This approach provides both strength and beauty.
Equally important are the subtleties: the way the collar points are shaped, the natural and elegant curve of the collar and cuffs, and their symmetry; the integration of each part with the body, with no step or break, but a seamless natural connection. By carefully easing the seam allowances by hand, we pursue a flawless finish. We also pay close attention to the stitching, ensuring it runs smoothly and naturally, without breaks or joins, from start to finish. This imparts both stability and beauty to the shirt, and we believe it conveys a sense of assurance and richness in its expression.
The inner collar is cut on the bias and joined at the center. By taking advantage of the fabric’s natural stretch along the grain and sewing while gently pulling toward the collar points, the inner collar applies natural tension to the outer collar, minimizing the difference between outer and inner dimensions and achieving a clean collar roll. In addition, all interlinings are cut on the true bias, which not only minimizes horizontal shrinkage but also imparts a subtle resilience to the collar roll and the cuff curves, creating a beautiful three-dimensional form.
For customers whose backs are higher than the front or whose shoulders pitch forward, it is sometimes necessary to create movement and three-dimensionality toward the rear. In such cases, our original flat-plane theory generates a mobility zone under the yoke. To accommodate this, we add only the necessary amount of gathers precisely at the shoulder blades. These gathers are not decorative design elements, but arise inevitably from functional need. To achieve this, our craftsmen pull the threads by hand, forming natural gathers one by one with care.
We also have a strict commitment to pattern matching. In all areas where patterns meet, alignment is ensured; with checks, both vertical and horizontal alignments are carefully managed. From the cutting stage, collar and yoke horizontals are calculated to connect naturally with the verticals of the body, achieving a seamless and unified appearance.
Button sewing and sleeve placket bar tacks are all executed by hand, and the final ironing and finishing are done three-dimensionally, with the human form in mind, free from distortion. Until the shirt is delivered into the customer’s hands, no compromise is allowed at any stage.
